Introduction
Spiritual ascent depends on true health. Despite what the spiritual gurus tell you, your health must be your primary objective and deserves all of your focus and intent. Everything else, including what we think we know or how spiritual we think we are, the odds are that we are speaking out of toxicity and deficiency. It is through toxicity and deficiency that our minds are easily led astray and open to suggestion. When you reach optimal health you will find these statements to be true.....'and the truth shall set you free.' Today, I will be talking about 2 major causes of disease, both of which must enter our consciousness and become a life-long commitment.
Causes of Most Disease
We have 2 generic causes of disease, meaning this applies to 95% (or greater) of the population globally. These 2 causes of disease are usually not discussed in Western Medicine but make up the foundation of Holistic Practice. These 2 common causes of disease are chronic unintentional dehydration (deficiency) and poor colon hygiene (toxicity.)
Chronic Unintentional Dehydration
This is perhaps the most difficult deficiency to correct. Many of my clients tell me they drink "lots of water." 99% of the time this is unintentionally false. We have many misconceptions about drinking water, mainly that it is necessary for hydration. Water is only half of the equation in reversing chronic dehydration. What is the other half? The answer would be salt. Water and salt is how one reverses chronic dehydration. This is what we use in hospitals - .9% saline solution, 9 grams of salt per liter, an isotonic solution. An isotonic solution means that it is the same concentration of our bodily fluids. Where water goes, salt follows and the reverse is true as well: where salt goes, water follows. When we consume much water and little salt or little water and much salt the result is the same and includes the following: swelling of lower extremeties, high blood pressure, heart palpitations. So how much is 9 grams? Roughly 2 teaspoons.
The current recommendation is half of one body's weight a day in ounces. For example, at 150 pounds of weight, the minimal daily requirement for water is 75 ounces. How much additional salt should be consumed? Currently, the recommendation is 1/4 teaspoon of salt per quart of water, assuming they are consuming salt from other sources. For a 150 pounds of body weight this equals roughly 2 1/2 quarts of water (I would round it out to 3 quarts) with an extra 3/4 teaspoon salt. This formula represents the daily minimal amount of water to be drunk for 'maintenance.' Current research shows that we need a bit more and the recommendation has increased to 7 oz of water for every 10 lbs of body weight. Once you have calculated the amount of water you need to drink daily don't forget to figure in the salt. For the same 150 lb body, the new formula calculates to 105 oz of water (roughly 3 1/4 quarts of water) and the salt has increased to a teaspoon. Can we overload on water? ONLY IF WE DON'T CONSUME SALT. Salt, in itself, is another issue because we have unrefined, unprocessed salt and industrial 'salt' which is sodium chloride. Unrefined salt contains roughly 70-80% sodium chloride and the rest is made up of essential trace minerals that work in synergy with sodium chloride. Table salt is sodium chloride extracted from it's elements, heated and bleached, and is quite toxic. Salt and sodium chloride are not true synonyms, nor do I use them interchangeably, though many believe they are. My definition of salt (salt of the earth, pillar of salt) is unrefined salt, TRUE salt, salt that the earth provides for us is unprocessed by man. Sodium chloride is not salt, it is sodium chloride, a component of true salt. As we have discovered over the years, isolating a compound from its counterparts can have toxic consequences.
How long should one consume water and salt to reverse dehydration? EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE! Truly that simple. The physical effects can be felt within a couple of days and these include clear thinking, more energy and vitality, ease of joint movement and other pleasant effects. It takes 3 months to reverse dehydration at a cellular level. If you stop drinking water and salt, your cells will return to a dehydrated state (crisis management) with the return of dehydration symptoms.
What are some symptoms of chronic dehydration? Here is a partial list:
asthma, allergies, fatigue, diabetes, cancer, constipation, urinary infections, kidney stones, high cholesterol, obesity, high or low blood pressure, skin disorders, stomach ulcers and other digestive disorders, joint inflammations such as arthritis or rheumatism, mental fog, depression.
Step 1 in any health recovery program begins with reversing chronic unintentional dehydration.
What roles do coffee, soda, 'energy' drinks, vitamin water and alcohol play in the discussion of hydration? They contribute to dehydration! This is important to remember. One can of soda requires an additional 32 ounces of alkaline water to reverse the toxic acidic effects of that soda. I would add a few drops of Neutralizer to that water to alkalinize it. If our 150 pound soul, drinking 105 ounces of water a day, were to have ONE soda, the daily requirement of water would increase to 137 ounces. Let's say that same soul were to have 2 cups of coffee throughout the day at 8 ounces a cup. If we replace each ounce of coffee with 1 1/2 ounces of water, the daily requirement of water has now increased to 161 ounces of water with the calculated amount of salt.
A primary contributor to dehydration is the confusion many still have about 'fluid' versus 'water.' Our body only recognizes water as water. Water should always be our beverage of choice! With no other intervention, we could keep our body in reasonable condition simply by reversing dehydration and understanding the impact of chronic dehydration on our bodies.
Step 2 in a health recovery program is colon health.
The colon, often referred to as the large intestine or the large bowel, is the part of our digestive system whose primary function is to maintain the body's fluid balance. It absorbs the remaining water and electrolytes from indigestible food matter, stores food that wasn't digested in the small intestine, and eliminates solid wastes (feces) from the body. A normal adult colon only weighs a few pounds but that is a rare find indeed in western civilization where the average colon is in excess of 10 lbs and even up to 50 lbs. Those excess pounds result from the stored indigestible food matter we have been eating leading to the back-up of feces we have not been eliminating. It's a mess. Really.
What happens to the stored indigestible food matter? It sits and rots, ferments and putrefies, like unattended garbage or sewage. Add the fact that the same body is most likely to be chronically dehydrated as well, guess what the exterior shows? A MYRIAD OF DISORDERS, AILMENTS AND CONDITIONS! The symptoms from an unattended colon, the most neglected and overworked organ in our body, the organ that doesn't complain, ie. the silent organ, mimic those of chronic dehydration and THEN some. THE OTHER ORGANS CANNOT FUNCTION IF THE COLON CAN'T. Period. Have a problem with your kidneys? Look to hydration and your colon. Pancreas acting up? Look to hydration and your colon. Liver having trouble filtering poisons? Look to hydration and your colon. Skin breaking out with lumps and bumps? Look to hydration and your colon. Feeling listless and down? Look to hydration and your colon. Have a cold, flu, sniffles, asthma, allergies? Look to hydration and your colon. Considered obese or morbidly obese? Look to hydration and your colon. It is impossible to have a major malfunction when one is hydrated with a well-maintained colon. In other words, one can only have a major meltdown when one is in a state of chronic dehydration coupled with an overworked, now malfunctioning, colon. ALL DISEASE STARTS IN THE COLON. How simple is that? Take care of one organ and the others will follow. Google colon cleanse and see what you come up with. I have my own recommendations based on the results my clients and I have had, which appear to work universally, meaning we have all had the same results consistently. Colon health and hydration must be front and center in your consciousness if you have any desire at all to prevent or reverse a condition.
